10 Best Restaurants in Maui, Hawaii (Local Favorites & Must-Try Spots) Map included for 2026

UPDATED: January 9, 2026

Maui isn’t just a paradise for surfers and sunset chasers — it’s a dream destination for food lovers, too. From casual beach-side breakfasts to elegant dinners with ocean views, this island’s dining scene is as diverse and delicious as its landscapes. Whether you’re craving fresh seafood plucked straight from Hawaiian waters, local twists on classic comfort food, or unforgettable fine dining experiences, Maui delivers unforgettable meals that are every bit as memorable as its beaches and sunsets. After years of visiting and eating our way around the island, we’ve rounded up the 15 best restaurants in Maui — the spots we always return to and that we think you’ll love too.

We’ve been to Maui every year since 2013, so we know a thing or two about the island. We try and find new restaurants but we have a handful that we keep going back to! Here is a great list of where to eat in Maui, Hawaii! See some of the best restaurants on the island, sorted by area, and noted by price.

There are a few restaurants that were lost due to the 2023 Maui fire but I’m going to keep them on this list in hopes they open a new location. I have made a note if their current status as of January 9, 2026.

Where to Eat in Kahului, Maui (Near airport)

Kahului is often seen as a quick stop for the airport or shopping, but it’s also home to some of Maui’s best local food spots. From casual counter-service restaurants to longtime local favorites, Kahului is where you’ll find authentic flavors, generous portions, and some of the island’s best value meals. If you’re looking to eat like a local—or want a great meal without the resort prices—Kahului is well worth a stop.

Tin Roof Maui ($)

Location: 360 PAPA PLACE STE Y, KAHULUI, HI, 96732

Closed on Sundays!

When landing in Maui, hunger hits. You've been on a plane forever. Pick up your rental car and drive 5 mins to Tin Roof! It's not a sit-down service restaurant (no liquor license) but excellent Hawaiian cuisine.

Per their website: TIN ROOF is a new generation mom & pop shop, owned by Internationally recognized Chef Sheldon Simeon & his wife, Janice. Raised in Hilo, Hawaii rain is a part of everyday life. Farmers markets keep buzzing, errands roll along, and garage kani ka pila never ends.

I loved their steak bowl - chopped flat iron steak wok-fried with garlic & scallion bottoms & topped off with ginger scallion pesto, served over rice & with a side of our daily banchan. Josh ordered the Sheldon Stay Hungry Special with pork belly and garlic noodles. It was the perfect quick meal after our long flight.

Don’t skip out on dessert! Try the Chocolate Birthday Bibingka Cake 🌈💗🎂 filled with ube, chocolate, peanut butter, sprinkles, and pop rocks!

There isn’t a place to sit, so pick it up and take it to enjoy on the beach!

10 Best Restaurants Near Kaanapali, Lahaina, and Kapalua (North West Shore)

The North West Shore of Maui—home to Kaanapali, Lahaina, and Kapalua—offers some of the island’s most scenic and memorable dining experiences. From oceanfront restaurants perfect for sunset dinners to casual spots ideal for families staying near the resorts, this area is packed with must-try places to eat. Whether you’re visiting for a weeklong vacation or just looking for a great meal near your hotel, these are the best restaurants on Maui’s North West Shore worth adding to your itinerary.

Monkeypod Kitchen ($$$)

Wailea Location: 10 Wailea Gateway Place B-201, Kihei, HI 96753

Kaanapali Location: 2435 Kaanapali Pkwy, Bldg I-1, Lahaina, HI 96761

See our full review: Best Restaurant in Maui: Monkeypod Kitchen

We first discovered Monkeypod in Wailea and were overjoyed when they opened a second location in Whalers Village, Kaanapali! We’ve found that it is the perfect spot for drinks and dinner. Get a Monkeypod Mai Tai with their fabulous honey foam! Loved the Bulgogi Pork Tacos - handcrafted kimchee, jalapeño, asian pear, sriracha aioli, locally-made corn tortilla. Jalapeño mashed potatoes ARE A MUST. They are green, but don’t let that scare you!

Dessert is a must here, we loved the rich Chocolate Cream Pie but they have other cream pies such as Banana available as well. Make a reservation in advance, we used Opentable (they might not be taking reservations at this time, but always triple check!).

Monkeypod is great for kids! They offer FREE butter noodles.

Best time to go to Monkeypod is Happy Hour to enjoy a discount on appetizers, pizzas, beers, and (my fave) Mai Tais!

Hula Grill & Barefoot Bar ($$$/$$)

Whalers Village, 2435 Kaanapali Pkwy, Lahaina, HI 96761

Located in Whalers Village with outstanding ocean views, these two restaurants, Hula Grill and Barefoot Bar are not only owned by the same company, they are connected to each other.

Hula Grill is a little more pricey with delicious traditional Hawaiian entrees including many fish dishes (crab, snapper, shrimp) and land dishes (chicken, steak, short rib, emu).

Barefoot bar is more casual ($$) serving burgers, fish and chips, pizza. The fun part about the bar, your feet are in the sand. Usually, they have live music and entertainment.

Regardless of which restaurant you try, I love their Mai Tai's which are served in tiki glasses topped with the umbrella! Also, you MUST try the Hula pie! It’s vanilla or macadamia nut ice cream with an Oreo crumble pie crust, with whipped cream and fudge on top (served at both restaurants)! Best part is - they are walking distance from the Kaanapali hotels!

Merriman's Kapalua ($$$$)

Location: 1 Bay Club Pl, Lahaina, HI 96761

The perfect spot for sunset drinks and dinner, and a fine dining restaurant right on the water overlooking Kapalua Bay. Their cocktails are superb, made with fresh ingredients. The farm to table menu has a variety of fresh fish like Mahi Mahi and savory steak. Make a reservation a month in advance to get in around sunset (you can google "sunset in Maui" and a time table will appear). Merriman's about a 15 min drive from the Kaanapali resorts.

Aloha Mixed Plate ($$) - BACK OPEN AGAIN!

Location: 1285 Front Street, Lahaina

Star Noodle had taken over their location but as of October 2024, Star Noodle moved next door and Aloha Mixed Plate moved back home to their original location. You get the most bang for your buck here! Good sized portions of traditional Hawaiian fare.

What to order: I went for the traditional Aloha Mixed Plate -most popular combination - shoyu chicken, thinly sliced teriyaki rib eye, fresh fish served with macaroni salad and steamed white rice. I also indulged in a Lava Flow which is half strawberry daiquiri and half Pina colada.

Dessert - You must get the Aloha Pie - Cookie crumble, coconut ice cream, fudge topped with coconut flakes. Calories don’t count on vacation.

Star Noodle ($$)

Location: 1287 Front Street, Lahaina **NEW LOCATION**

See our full review here: Star Noodle Restaurant Review

So many people highly recommended Star Noodle to us, but every time we tried to go on previous trips, there was always a long wait. We made a reservation ahead of time and we finally made it to Star Noodle! It’s right on the water with a great view of Lanai and the perfect spot to watch the sunset. I HIGHLY recommend you make reservation at least a month out to dine at the restaurant.

Star Noodle is known for Asian shared plates, noodle dishes & sake cocktails.

MUST TRY: The garlic noodles and pork buns were so great, they brought us back a second night when we picked up food to go to eat on our balcony! Pro tip: Order the garlic noodles with the udon noodles (they are bigger, thicker, delicious noodles).

We went 3 times in one trip and our staples were the Pork Buns and Chicken Wings for appetizers, along with the Pork Udon (ramen type dish with pork, pork broth, and udon noodles) and the garlic noodles.

For dessert, they did have some interesting ice cream flavors: Ube Oreo, Mint mango, and Pineapple lichee.

Star Noodle has a full bar, but I wasn’t impressed with the selection. Their food is definitely worth the wait.

Maui Brewing Company ($$)

Locations: 605 Lipoa Pkwy, Kihei, HI 96753 and NEW LOCATION in the Outrigger Kaanapali Beach Resort - 2525 Kaanapali Pkwy, Lahaina, HI 96761

Maui Brewing Company is great for a beer (variety of selections on tap both local and from the mainland) and appetizers, burgers, and sandwiches. Try the Black Rock dip and chicken wings, you won't be disappointed!

One thing to note, the Honoapiilani Highway restaurant closed and is now walking distance within the Kaanapali resorts!

Fun Fact: The actual Maui Brew Co brewery is closer to the airport near Kihei.

Sale Pepe ($$) - NOW OPEN

Address: 157 Kupuohi St STE J1, Lahaina, HI 96761

Sale Pepe has returned after their storefront being destroyed in the Lahaina fires!

An Italian and New Yorker opened an Italian joint in Hawaii and it is PERFECTION! We had a few of their pizzas and pasta and can’t wait to come back for more.

We ordered 2 pizzas and a pasta dish and got 3 meals out of it for the 2 of us. Our favorite pizza was the Tomato, Fior di Latte, Red Onion, Pecorino, Maui Cattle Co. Meatballs Pizza. They cut their slices in fourths, so if you want smaller pieces I suggest you make the request when you order! Indoor seating also available here.

Lunch at Aloha Braised Food Truck

Address: 58 Kupuohi St, Lahaina, HI 96761

We went here two days in a row we liked it so much. It’s a little off the beaten path but also conveniently located next to a grocery store and near our favorite dive shop, Extended Horizons! If you like spicy, you must try the Volcano Chicken (fried chicken with spicy mayo) served with rice and mac salad! Josh liked the pork belly! Get a side of crinkle-cut fries to share!

Lahaina Coolers ($$) - PERMANENTLY CLOSED DUE TO FIRE

OLD Location: 180 Dickenson St #107, Lahaina, HI 96761

Amazing spot for breakfast (or lunch) just off Front Street! There was NO wait on a Saturday morning at 8:30a! We sat out on the patio and had great service right away! I indulged in the Local Benedict (served over Hawaiian sweet bread with Kalua pig) and did not leave hungry. Josh ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was good, but not as good as the benedict. Their potatoes are a perfect mix of french fries and tater tots! Also, try their homemade hot sauce, but caution, it’s SUPER SPICY if you overload!

Gazebo Restaurant ($$)

Location: Napili Shores Maui by Outrigger, 5315 Lower Honoapiilani Rd, Lahaina, HI 96761

Great breakfast spot, however, it’s always crowded. Try and get there 30 minutes before they open to beat the line. We waited for about an hour after arriving a tad after 7:30a, but saw the most amazing rainbow while waiting (pictured below along with the pancakes that I was too excited to eat and forgot to take a picture of them whole).

Pro-tip: You can go around the back to place an order go (see where the lady is standing in the picture), then sit right on the beach and enjoy your meal with a view of Napili Bay!

The macadamia nut pancake combo with pineapple and banana pancakes made the wait worth it! Make sure you get coconut syrup and whipped cream on top. Their coffee was fresh and strong, definitely order the fresh POG juice (pineapple, orange, guava).

It's about a 15 minute drive from Kaanapali resorts.

Pro tip #2: park in the free beach parking by Merriman’s then go to the beach/snorkeling after breakfast. Just wait those 30 minutes before you swim! ;-)

Down the Hatch ($$) - TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO FIRES - Hope they open a new location soon!

OLD Location: 658 Front St #102, Lahaina, HI 96761

Down_the_hatch_Breakfast_Maui_Restaurant.jpeg

Breakfast Burrito Maui

We went to Down the Hatch on our last day, in which we were heading to the airport. We decided to order breakfast to go to enjoy at a park along the beach! My breakfast burrito was amazing with a chipotle aioli sauce of some sort and the coffee was freshly brewed.

The downside, if I may, was that football games were on and the restaurant was super busy, taking about 30 mins for my food to go.

Best Restaurants in Wailea

Wailea is known for its luxury resorts, beautiful beaches, and some of the best dining experiences on the island. From upscale oceanfront restaurants perfect for romantic dinners to laid-back spots ideal for families staying nearby, Wailea offers a wide range of memorable places to eat. If you’re looking for exceptional food, stunning sunset views, and convenient dining close to your resort, these are the best restaurants in Wailea to add to your Maui itinerary.

Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante at the Four Seasons Wailea ($$$)

Location: Four Seasons - 3900 Wailea Alanui Dr, Kihei, HI 96753

After being in Maui for a few weeks, we hadn’t had much Italian food and were so excited about our reservation at Ferraro’s! We came hungry and ordered a lot of food for 2 people…

For an appetizer, we started with the Al Forno Fired Focaccia Bread (Nduja Butter, Roasted Garlic, Maui Olive Oil, Fried Rosemary), which was fantastic. The Nduja Butter was made with salami and was rather tasty.

For dinner, I ordered the Pappardelle A.O.C. Ragu Bolognese (Pork and Beef Ragu, Shaved Pecorino, Fiore Sardo) and there wasn’t a bite left. Josh ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara (Guanciale, Organic Egg, Pecorino Romano, Black Pepper) heavy white cream sauce with a pepper kick. Good, but not our favorite. Call us crazy, but we ordered a side of Gnocchi (Brown Butter, Rosemary, Black Truffle), yes, we ordered a side of pasta to go with our pasta and don’t regret it one bit. It was the best gnocchi we’ve ever had.

You’d think we’d stop there after all the carbs, but no, we went for dessert. So, we liked the options on the regular menu but saw there was an Apple Pie with Vanilla ice cream on the kids/teens menu, and that’s what we went with. It came out looking like a tart and was perfect.

This is one of our new favorite restaurants and we will definitely come back.

Lineage in Wailea ($$$)

Location: 3750 Wailea Alanui Dr, Wailea, HI 96753

cinnamon leaf and POG Sherbet at Lineage

cinnamon leaf and POG Sherbet at Lineage

You might recognize Chef Sheldon as a finalist on the show Top Chef, and after trying his food and drinks you can see why he made to the finals! His theme is eat, drink, and talk story - which is what we did at Lineage!

DRINKS: The Mai'a Tai is different from most Mai Tais but has a delicious spin to the tiki classic. Mai'a Tai - Banks 5 Rum, Banana Milk Punch, Walnut, Pecan, Giffard Apricot de Rousillon, Lime, Almond~Spice Liqueur

FOOD: Josh and I split the Korean Fried Chicken and had both the Sweet Kochujang and Spicy Jalapeno Garlic - Crispy fried chicken, pickled kohlrabi, sesame seeds, peanuts and kochujang glaze. The chicken was tender and perfect with a light kick but not too spicy. Complimentary tea was served to cleanse our palettes and savor our dishes.

DESSERT: We were pretty full but had to try dessert! We had the sherbet flavors cinnamon leaf and POG (Pineapple, Orange, Guava juice). The pog was so tangy and refreshing while the cinnamon leaf had a spice to it. Very yin and yang!

HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A ($$$)

HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A Drink - The Grand

Location: Grand Wailea - 3850 Wailea Alanui Dr, Wailea, HI 96753

Easy for you to say! This was our favorite place to get a drink a fancy cocktail in the bar and watch the sunset. Humuhumnukunukuapua’a means triggerfish with a snout like a pig (it’s a reef triggerfish). Their recipe for The Grand has a lighter taste without the dark rum and topped off with a wonderfully sweet pineapple vanilla foam.

Make reservations ahead of time for dinner here, the menu looks fantastic!

Wolfgang Puck’s Spago at the Four Seasons Wailea ($$$$)

Location: Four Seasons - 3900 Wailea Alanui Dr, Kihei, HI 96753

DRINKS: The mixologists at Spago have come up with some really inventive, and delicious, takes on the Mai Tai, giving that floating in the ocean without a care in the world feeling!

  • The 1944 - Plantation Xaymaca Run, Duquesne Aged Rhum Agricole, Dry Curacao, Lime

  • The Spago Maui - Plantation Pineapple Rum, Koloa Dark Rum, 151 Proof Rum, Apricot Brandy, Almond, Lime, Pineapple

  • The Stirred - Plantation Xaymaca Rum, Duquesne Aged Rhum Agricole, Plantation Pineapple Rum, Dry Curacao, Citrus Oils

FOOD: We enjoyed a nice sunset dinner at Spago overlooking Wailea Beach. Adam Sandler was sitting at the table next to us! For dinner, I savored the Pan Roasted Puna Chicken with surfing goat cheese, chili, garlic, and roasted Aloun Farm's vegetables and Josh had the Wiener Schnitzel with marinated fingerling potatoes, watercress, and Styrian pumpkin seed oil.

Don’t forget dessert! Try the decadent Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé topped with Guanaja Valrhona chocolate sauce & vanilla ice cream! So rich and delish!

Best Restaurant in Paia / Road to Hana

Mama’s Fish House  ($$$)

Location: 799 Poho Pl, Paia, HI 96779

Mama’s Fish House is one of Maui’s most iconic dining experiences, known for ultra-fresh seafood, locally sourced ingredients, and unforgettable oceanfront views. It’s a must-visit for special occasions and first-time visitors looking for a classic Hawaiian fine dining experience. Great for dinner and drinks on the North Shore. We went here on our way back from the Road to Hana adventure. See our guide here: ROAD TO HANA GUIDE

I'm not a fish person particularly, but I did try some and it was the best fish I’ve ever had. I enjoyed their short rib and a couple of Mai Tai's (love that it's served in a tiki glass)!

Make a reservation in advance, we used Opentable. Parking is valet only.

BONUS: MAUI COFFEE AND ICE CREAM SUGGESTIONS!

 Island Cream Company ($)

Location: 305 Keawe St #511, Lahaina, HI 96761

I'm not sure Island Cream Company just tastes better because it's in Hawaii (everything is better in Hawaii) or if it's their original recipe with the perfect mix of gelato and ice cream. All ice creams are hand made as well as their cones, fudge and other fun toppings. Most ice creams are natural and products are bought locally.

My favorite was the Maui-Loco filled with Macadamia nuts, chocolate chips and caramel in a creamery coconut ice cream base. So refreshing and delicious!

See our full review here: Island Cream Co

Coffee and Breakfast at Island Press Coffee

Address: 2580 Kekaa Dr STE 104, Lahaina, HI 96761

You can’t go wrong with an egg, cheese, and bacon croissant with a Mac nut latte! They also have other croissant variations as well as other pastries (try the crumb cake). We went here twice, taking our breakfast to go to enjoy on the beach!

Grandma’s Coffee ($)

Location: 9232 Kula Hwy, Kula, HI 96790

Perfect place for coffee and breakfast if you're attempting the back way to Hana. Fresh coffees, espresso drinks and pastries will leave your tummy happy and full.

From central Maui, head up Haleakala Highway 37 from the Hana Highway. Following Highway 37 traverse Haleakala Crater while enjoying the spectacular upcountry Maui views. Continue on to the picturesque community of Keokea, home of Grandma's Coffee House. Grandma's is a short distance from the Kula botanical Gardens and on the way to Tedeschi Vineyards.

Star Noodle

Location: 1287 Front St, Lahaina, HI 96761

When we got married in Maui (or when we got Maui’d) in 2014, our friends were all telling us how great Star Noodle was! We didn’t have time on that trip but wanted to try it if we ever came back. We came back every year since 2014 , but finally made it to Star Noodle in 2019 because we remembered to make a reservation in advance! We learned why everyone was raving about this place… the garlic noodles had us coming back the next day!

Pork Buns at Star Noodle

Star Noodle Location in 2026

In 2020, Star Noodle moved locations to occupy the old Aloha Mixed Plate spot right on Front Street. We dined three times during the month we were there and tried many items on the menu.

We even had the perfect table right by the water at sunset! How lucky! Since Star Noodle is located next to the Old Lahaina Luau, we could hear and kind of see the show!

2026 Update - After the Lahaina fires, Star Noodle closed and reopened in 2024 right nextdoor (1287 Front St) to their old location which Aloha Mixed Plate (1285 Front St) moved back into!

For a complete breakdown of where to eat, stay, and what to do, see our Ultimate Maui Travel Guide.

Reservation Recommended

Reservations can be made on YELP, I suggest making them at least 1-2 weeks in advance and check what time sunset is! Once you arrive, the host will take your temperature, then take you to your table. Masks must be worn at all times, except while at your own table.

We ALWAYS start with an order of pork buns (see photo above)! They come with 3 or 4 and the pork belly in that sweet bun is pure perfection.

We also are huge fans of the Nuoc Cham Wings! The sweet glaze with a slight crisp makes a delicious chicken wing!

We LOVE the garlic noodles and HAVE to order them EVERY TIME we go. Our waiter taught us a neat trick, ask for the thicker udon noodles for the garlic noodle dish - game changer!

The Rib Eye was delicious and savory, smothered in delicious grilled onions. The market price changes based on how the chef is preparing the meat that day.

The Adobo Ribs are good, but we prefer the chicken wings. The meat falls right off the bone!

These Star Noodle Desserts are the BEST

Don’t forget dessert (I never do)! One of the nights we went, their ice cream choices included Ube Oreo, Mint mango, and Pineapple lichee. The consistency was interesting on these, but the flavors were outstanding.

11 Best Ice Cream Trucks and Catering in Los Angeles

Exceptional artisan ice cream trucks found in Los Angeles! Soft serve, vegan options, and more can be found in our top 11! Ice cream trucks are fun for catering parties and corporate work functions, but also nice when they are near you so you don’t have to drive across LA to their shop.

Ice Cream Trucks you need to try in LA!

These aren’t your creepy vans that sell Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pops, these are exceptional artisan ice cream trucks that Angelino’s seek out! Ice cream trucks are fun for parties and work functions, but also nice when they are in your area.

Here are some of my favorite ice cream trucks in LA:

King Kone Ice Cream Soft Serve

King Kone Ice Cream Soft Serve

King Kone Ice Cream Truck

If you’re looking for soft serve and sprinkles, this truck’s got you covered! Their menu doesn’t end there, try an ice cream sandwich, milkshake, or banana split! No matter what, there is something for everyone!

CVT Soft Serve Truck

CVT’s goal is to make the best soft serve around! Using local California dairy, they have perfected their soft serve and claim it is the best west of the Atlantic. As they say, “is it arrogant if it’s true?” Their comedic and transparent personality makes for a great follow on their Instagram! Whatever you do, don’t ask them for free things in exchange for social media posts, Influencers pay double! #welovemostofourcustomers

Recess Ice Cream Truck

We ordered this truck a few times for work functions and they didn’t disappoint! Recess offers fun options like french toast sliders, frozen hot chocolate, ice cream sandwiches, sundaes, and more!

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Truck

I often see the Van Leeuwen truck on Abbott Kinney, but you can also rent for parties and events! Their artisan ice cream flavors will please any audience and they offer gluten-free and vegan flavors!

McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams Truck

McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams Truck

McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream Truck

“Have ice cream, will travel” is this Santa Barbara-based company’s motto! LA locals are familiar with McConnell’s scoop shops around town and their ice cream truck can often be found at street fairs. You can book them for parties, weddings, corporate events, and more!

Blast Ice Cream Truck

Blast Ice Cream Truck

Blast Ice Cream Truck

Blast truck serves liquid nitrogen ice cream so it is sure to be in its freshest purest form. They serve organic ice cream, scratch-made, and finish each order off with locally sourced toppings. We first found them at Smorgasburg LA.

Happy Ice Truck

Happy Ice, per their website, is an “ultra-premium Water Ice product, made from a secret recipe from Philadelphia with an artistic LA twist. It has the smooth, rich, creamy texture of ice cream and the light, fruity refreshment of a sorbet, without egg or dairy products of any kind.” You can spot this truck from miles away with the vibrant colors. It is also black-owned business, show some support!

Oat-ly Ice Cream Truck

Oat-ly Ice Cream Truck

Oat-ly Ice Cream Truck

Oat-ly is an original oat milk company from Sweden that turns nutritious liquid oat milk into ice cream! It’s plant-based, vegan, and gluten-free! They also are earth-conscious, making their ice cream while reducing their carbon footprint as much as possible.

Kona Shaved Ice Truck

Have a luau or tropical island-themed party? Have some authentic shave Ice to go with your tiki decor! They even do fundraisers for functions like schools and sports teams!

Sweet N Hollow Chimney Cake

Sweet N Hollow Chimney Cake

Sweet N' Hollow

Ok, so this may not be a truck, but a great ice cream catering option! Instead of a waffle cone, ice cream is served in Chimney Cakes! What are those? Well, “Ever been to PRAGUE or BUDAPEST? Then maybe you’ve tried this Eastern European sweet pastry! A warm bread made with fresh yeast dough rolled on a wooden cylinder and baked in a rotisserie grill. ‘Kürtőskalács’ or ‘Trdelnik’ is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. A cinnamon-sugar topping makes this a classic European delight!”

You can often find them at Smorgasburg DTLA!

SuperCool Creamery

SuperCool Creamery

SuperCool Creamery

Supercool combines ice cream and magic with a little liquid nitrogen! Fantastic flavors and a variety of toppings (including booze), they’ll add pizaazz to any party! They used to have a shop in Silver Lake but are currently only offering their catering service. See our full post: SuperCool Creamery Review

I love ice cream but I hate dieting! I was thrilled when I discovered Halo Top at my local Ralphs, finally, a low-calorie ice cream that is delicious! I love everything about this brand, their marketing, flavors, and was so excited to hear the news that an ice cream scoop shop was opening near me!

2020 UPDATE: A lot of the scoop shop locations have closed but The Grove is open with the same options as my visit to Century City! The Grove location is right in front of Nordstroms where Haagen Dazs used to be. It’s best to grab a soft serve cone and enjoy it near the fountain!

If I buy the pint, I’ll want to eat the whole thing! Here you can get not only your favorite pint flavors but also incredible soft serve options! Since I can get a pint anytime at my local Ralphs, I wanted to try something different so I went for the soft serve. I tried all three soft serve options - Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, and Peaches & Cream. All were tasty, but the peaches and cream flavor was perfect for the warm summer day!

There were so many different options from 4 different kinds of cones to ice cream sandwiches and ICE CREAM TACOS! Also, the cones came in the best colors - pink and a bluish turquoise!

Disneyland food you can't miss - where to find the best food and sweet treats!

Attention Disneyland Foodies! In this post, we’ll tell you all the places you must go to try Disneyland Resort’s best food and dessert options! Want a Mickey-shaped milkshake or sundae? Check-out where to go! Did someone say ice cream?

See our top Disneyland dessert picks!

Disneyland_Sleeping_Beauty_Castle.jpg
Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour

Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour

Two of my favorite things in the world make a perfect combo: Disneyland & ice cream!!! I am such a Disney nerd and have been to Disneyland (literally) hundreds of times since I was little. Josh and I have even ventured to Hong Kong Disneyland and Paris Disneyland. We still have Tokyo and Shanghai to visit!

We averaged going to Disneyland almost once a month for the past few years, checking out the treats the Food and Wine Festival offered in Spring, Summer specials, Halloweentime in the Fall, and Holiday specials during winter. I present to you my findings of delicious treats around the resort that you can find throughout the year and the seasonal specialties offered.

Note: Most seasonal treats come back each year, but not guaranteed.

Mickey’s Cookies and Cream 90 Sprinkle Milkshake

Mickey’s Cookies and Cream 90 Sprinkle Milkshake

Schmoozies!

Location: California Adventure - Hollywood Land

Let’s start with my favorite, the Mickey shakes at Schmoozies in California Adventure’s Hollywood Land are not only super cute to look at, but they taste DELICIOUS too! The shakes change with the seasons and are typically made cookies and cream style.

PRO-TIP: Order on the Disneyland mobile app. We’ve waited over 30 mins on a crowded day!

The Churro Shake (Brown Sugar-Cinnamon Ice Cream, Cinnamon Churro Cereal, Whipped Topping and Churro Toffee) can also be found here for you churro lovers!

If you don’t want a milkshake and want a more “healthy” option, there are also smoothies including our favorites Mango Madness and Strawberry Banana Sensation!

Tropical Hideaway - Pineapple Raspberry Swirl

Tropical Hideaway - Pineapple Raspberry Swirl

Tropical Hideaway

Location: Disneyland - Adventureland

Located directly behind the Tiki Room, the NEW Tropical Hideaway is open for ice cream business. Orange, Pineapple, or Raspberry are your options here.

Pro-tip: You can even add bacon bits as a topping, which is part of their Secret Menu!

You can even sit and watch the Jungle Cruisers come back from their journey.

Dole Whip Soft Serve

Dole Whip Soft Serve

Pineapple Dole Whip Soft Serve

Location: Adventureland Entrance - Disneyland Park

So creamy and fruity, pineapple Dole Whip is the best soft serve around! Lines can be long for this sweet treat, but it is worth it. Makes me want to sing “in the tiki tiki tiki room…”

Pro-Tip: You can order via the Disneyland Mobile app! GENIUS!

Funnel Cake Fries - Award Wieners

Funnel Cake Fries - Award Wieners

AWARD WIENERS

Location: California Adventure - Hollywood Land

Who doesn’t love a hot dog and fries? The key here is Funnel Cake Fries! From flavors like Apple Pie Fries (Coated with Cinnamon-Sugar, topped with Apple Pie Filling, Caramel Sauce, Whipped Cream, and Streusel) to standard funnel cake strips, the toppings are the game-changers.

Throughout the different seasons, toppings vary from Oogie Boogie themed with crushed Oreos and gummy worms at Halloween to cereal and condensed milk with whipped cream. No matter when you go, they’re always tasty!

The CrazyShake

Location: Black Tap Craft Burgers and Beers Restaurant - Downtown Disney

Black Tap is known for their amazing hamburgers and their CrazyShake milkshakes! Dine in or hop in their shake window line to grab one to go!

I would enlist help taking these shakes down because yes, that is an ice cream sandwich hanging off the side of the shake in the picture (in case you were wondering)!

Blue Milk - Galaxy’s Edge

Blue Milk - Galaxy’s Edge

Blue Milk

Location: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland

Do you remember the scene from Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi when Luke squeezes gross milk from the udder of a female Thala-siren (basically an alien sea cow) and gulps it? Yeah, it was disgusting. Anyhoo, Galaxy’s Edge is now serving a Blue Milk and a Green Milk from a machine… not a creature.

Blue Milk: Plant-based Dairy blend of Coconut and Rice Milk with alluring fruity characteristics.

Green Milk: Plant-based Dairy blend of Coconut and Rice Milk with zippy citrus and tropical characteristics.

The consistency is strange, it’s like a smoothie, or somewhere between a slushie and a milkshake! We preferred the Blue Milk, which had a sweet, dessert-like taste. The Green Milk tasted almost floral like as if it were lavender ice cream. These drinks are also one of the hottest commodities right now, so make sure you use the mobile order with the Disneyland app. It’s not worth waiting in line!

Batuu-bon found in Galaxy’s Edge

Batuu-bon found in Galaxy’s Edge

Batuu-bon

Location: Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

If you’re traveling to a Galaxy Far Far Away… Batuu is the last stop before entering Wild Space. You must try the Batuu-bon, a decadent chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse and coffee custard. The green sponge-like cake tasted fruity and the coin was a piece of chocolate! You’ll need nourishment before your trip into space, light speed ahead!

Ghiradelli - Lands End Salted Caramel Brownie Sundae with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

Ghiradelli - Lands End Salted Caramel Brownie Sundae with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

Ghirardelli's Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop

Location: California Adventure - Wharf

The Ghirardelli headquarters can be found in San Francisco, but I'm not opposed to having some chocolatey goodness in California Adventure. This scoop shop is next to cars land, just as you are entering the wharf (where the food court is).

Their menu will have you drooling. With 10+ sundaes to choose from and 10 of shakes or ice cream scoop combos, you can customize to your tastebuds content.

Our faves:

Lands End Salted Caramel Brownie Sundae - Vanilla Ice Cream, a full-size Ghirardelli® Chocolate Brownie, Caramel Sauce, Sea Salt and handmade Hot Fudge topped with Whipped Cream, Caramel Sauce, Ghirardelli® Chocolate Sauce and a Cherry

Nob Hill Chill - a sundae you can sip (vanilla ice cream, fudge and chocolate chips on top)!

Jack Jack Cookie Num Nums.jpg

Huge Chocolate Chip Cookies

Location: Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums on Pixar Pier at California Adventure

If you want a chocolate chip as big as your face, this is your place! Jack-Jack’s cookies are as super as he is! Choose from chocolate chip, shortbread and jam-filled, gluten-friendly cookies.

Pro-tip: Grab one of these to share with your friends and family while waiting for the Incredicoaster!

Pink Strawberry Ice cream!

Pink Strawberry Ice cream!

Clarabelle's Ice Cream

Location: Near Entrance of California Adventure

As you enter the park, Clarabelle's can be found at the end of the Buena Vista Street on your right (next to Starbucks). It isn't homemade but a nice selection of Dreyer's ice cream!

You can always get a chocolate-covered ice cream bar but at Christmastime, you can get a refreshing Peppermint Ice Cream Bar with your ice cream of choice!

At Halloweentime, they serve up a mean raspberry bat sundae, and by mean, I mean YUMMY! See more: Halloween Time at Disneyland

Peppermint Soft Serve - Cozy Cone Motel

Peppermint Soft Serve - Cozy Cone Motel

Cozy Cone Motel Ice Cream

Location: California Adventure - Cars Land

You can always get vanilla or chocolate soft serve at the Ice Cream Cozy Cone (HUGE PORTIONS) but at Christmas time, you can get also get the peppermint soft serve topped with holiday sprinkles and a star! It’s as pretty as a Christmas tree and VERY MINTY.

Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats - Soft Serve

Location: California Adventure Boardwalk (Pixar Pier)

Formally known as the Paradise Pier Ice Cream stand, Pixar Pier took over and Abominable is serving up some sweet treats! Soft serve lemon flavored ice cream is the ticket here. You may have been warned not to eat yellow snow, but here, it’s perfectly acceptable. See the before and after:

Señor Buzz Churros

Location: Pixar Pier and Carts

Buzz whips up some good churros over on Pixar Pier! Churros taste better while at the parks for whatever reason! Pick up some cinnamon sugary goodness with Buzz or any other cart in the parks.

Pro-Tip: Grab a churro while you wait in line for Midway Mania! It’s the BEST ride in the park!

Fresh cookies and confections treats are made daily at the bakeries! Sink your teeth into a Cheshire Cat marshmallow tail or Mickey shaped candy apple. From cake pops to rice krispies, your sweet tooth will be more than satisfied.

Disneyland Ice Cream-Gibson Girl.jpg

Ice Cream Cones and Sundaes

Location: Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street USA in Disneyland

AP discounts offered

Cones are made fresh daily and seasonal sprinkles along with select flavors of Dreyer's ice cream!

Our favorite is the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae with cookie dough ice cream! Comes in a Mickey shape, OF COURSE!

Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches

Location: Ice Cream Carts

Grab a Mickey-shaped ice cream sandwich to cool down at various ice cream carts and restaurants around the park.

A classic that I have loved since I was a kid! The ice cream sandwiches are so frozen at first, it is so hard to be patient to wait for it to soften!

Disneyland Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich.jpg

Disneyland Ice Cream-Salt and Straw.jpg

Artisan Ice Cream

Location: Salt and Straw in Downtown Disney

I love Salt and Straw and I’m excited one has opened in Downtown Disney. Originally from Portland, Oregon, Salt and Straw has the best handmade ice cream made with local ingredients. Every month they feature a handful of unique original flavors.

Our experience at Saruni Samburu was unbelievable! Yes, I know I say this often but I mean it! From the room to the food to the guides, our stay was absolutely perfect and we were sad to leave. We even got up close and personal with the Northern Five native to Northern Kenya!

How to Get to Samburu, Kenya

We stopped in Nairobi and took a smaller plane to Samburu for about an hour's flight. They did weigh our luggage but you give them your bags over a counter so you can kinda hide a camera if you’re worried about the 33 lb weight limit. The coolest part was sitting behind the pilots and landing on a dirt runway!

Flight to Samburu Kenya.jpg
Landing Samburu Kenya.jpg

Our guide met us there and took us to the Saruni Rhino where we spent a few days but the drive from the air strip was about 30-45 minutes from Saruni Samburu.

I wish we had more time to spend in the room! WHO SAYS THAT?! Well, when you have a room with a second floor and a lovely living room overlooking Kenya, why wouldn’t you?!

As we walked into our room, which was not a suite, this is their standard room, we were blown away by the size of the room and the balcony attached to it!

We then discovered we had another room upstairs! This room was also large in size set up like a living room, complete with a dining table.

The bathroom was huge and had a bidet next to the toilet. Not only was there a shower inside the bathroom, but there was also a shower outside overlooking the conservation. I did take a shower outside one morning while watching elephants at the waterhole.

Safari Time at Saruni Samburu

How do safaris work?

We weren’t sure exactly what to expect for our safaris, but we were very happy with our experience. Everyday you’ll head out in the morning or afternoon for a safari. Depending on what you see and how great your guide is, you’ll drive around for 5-8 hours which sounds crazy but goes by real quick! Our car was completely open and had panels that came down in case it rained.

Elephant Crossing

Elephant Crossing

What should you wear on a safari?

I read a ton of blogs telling me what to pack and that I needed to purchase $100 safari shirts… Let me tell you, I was just fine in my Gap t-shirt and leggings. We did treat our clothes with permethrin, a bug repellent for your clothes. In the morning and late afternoon, I made sure to have a sweatshirt but there were also blankets in the car. Unless you are getting out of the vehicle, which you aren’t supposed to, there’s no reason not to where something comfortable that you can sit in for long periods of time.

Our Safari Experience

Joseph was our guide for the time we were at Saruni Samburu as well as Saruni Rhino. Since he is from the local village, he knew the area (and animals) very well and was phenomenal at finding animals far away. Joseph understood various animal behaviors and explained their actions, teaching us fun facts about each animal.

Scroll down later in the post to watch our video of our trip to Saruni Samburu!

  19. Reticulated Giraffes (part of the Northern Five, more on that below)

  20. Warthogs - Even our guide called them pumbaas (which means dumb in Swahili)! Since they have such a short term memory, they are known to walk by a lion and walk back to the same spot 5 minutes later, forgetting they had passed it.

  21. Eastern yellow-billed hornbill - AKA the flying banana or Zazu from the Lion King

  22. Baboons

  23. Monkeys

Cheetah stalking antelope

We went out in the early morning and late afternoon covering all basis to see as many animals as possible. Every day we saw something different and right when one day couldn’t possibly top the day before, it did! Depending on how long we were going out, we either ate before or after the safari, or they packed us breakfast or lunch.

Can you spot the leopard? pun intended

Can you spot the leopard? pun intended

The topography was very dry and looked like the elephant graveyard in the Lion King. There is a river about an hour away and the closer you get, the more animals you see! Keep your eyes peeled and be patient. Sometimes just sitting and watching the animals for a while is fun to observe their behaviors. You never know what they might do!

  3. Hawk

  4. Hare

  5. Jackal

We were lucky to find the Kenyan Northern Five including the Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, and the Reticulated Giraffe!

Here we go…

1. Somali Ostrich

The Somlai Ostrich differs from most ostriches with a bluish color on their neck and legs, instead of a pink color. The males were beautiful with black and white feathers, while the females had grayish brown feathers.

2. Gerenuk

As part of the antelope family, Gerenuks are also known as giraffe gazelles, appropriately named with their long necks and slender limbs. They’ll even stand erect on their hind legs to reach higher branches. I loved the pattern in their ears!

Gerenuk - Kenyan Northern Five

3. Grevy’s Zebra

In comparison to other zebras, Grevy’s unique characteristics include their taller height, large ears, narrower stripes, and white bellies with no stripes. with their stripes being closer together and thinner, it is easier for them to make a good escape and to hide from predators. Foals are born with brown and white striping which darken as they grow older.

4. Beisa Oryx

Also known as the East African Oryx, they are recognized by their long horns and striped markings. Yeah, even though they eat grass, I wouldn’t mess with those horns!

5. Reticulated Giraffe

Also known as the Somali Giraffe and most commonly seen in zoos. Their beautiful coats consists of large, polygonal, liver-colored spots outlined by bright-white lines.

Food at Saruni Samburu

The owner of the Saruni franchise is Italian and all food was also Italian with a Kenyan flair. There were always 3 courses for every meal and we never left feeling hungry! Dessert was always a must! Alcohol was included which we typically had wine and beer. There was a beverage menu with more options that you could pay for.

The Grounds at Saruni Samburu

There were 2 gorgeous infinity pools within a short walking distance fo our room. Although they weren’t heated, it was nice to take a dip then sit and enjoy the view.

Africa_Saruni_Samburu_Kenya-pool.jpg

The main lodge was a nice place to hang out as well. Sometimes before or after a meal we’d hang out and have a drink by the bonfire, or just lounge on the big couches and enjoy the view.

Africa_Saruni_Samburu_Kenya-Main_lodge.jpg

Wifi was only available near the main lodge and it wasn’t very good. Don’t count on working from there, but a few social media posts will go through… eventually.

Activities to do while at Saruni Samburu

Massages

Our room came with a complimentary massage for 30 mins for one person. After lugging around our heavy bags through airports, I was ready for a back and neck massage!

Bush Walk

We walked around the outskirts of our lodge with our guide and a ranger, and came across a pack of wild dogs! Apparently they are very rare to see. I thought they were hyenas at first, I just loved their big ears!

Wild Dogs - Rare sight!

Star Gazing

At night there was practically no light pollution leaving a sky full of stars! We were able to see the Milky Way and on Josh’s Sony A7, he was able to capture the Milky Way!

We had a wonderful stay at Saruni Samburu and highly recommend it to anyone booking a future trip to Africa. We booked through Scott Dunn to get the best service and bang for our buck! Please tell them we sent you!

How to Spend 5 AMAZING Days in Sydney, Australia

How to spend 5 days in Sydney - Australia - Full itinerary! See all the things to do and where to stay in Sydney! See our tips in this great Travel Guide! This was our honeymoon and it was perfect!

Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House

What to do for 5 Days in Sydney, Australia

While we were on our 3-week honeymoon, we spent a large chunk of it in Sydney! We had spent New Years in Sydney but left to let the crowds die down a bit and came back on the 3rd of January. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would definitely go back. Making the long trek from California, we wanted to see all Sydney had to offer and spent about 5 days there.

Where to Stay in Sydney

We used our Hyatt reward nights, a perk from our Hyatt Credit Card, along with some points, and stayed at the beautiful 5-star Park Hyatt Sydney. It was the perfect location - across from the Opera House, near Circular Quay (where you can jump on a train or ferry and get anywhere in a matter of minutes), and under the Harbor Bridge.

Park Hyatt Sydney

Here was our 5-day itinerary for Sydney:

Day 1

Pancakes on the Rocks

Pancakes on the Rocks

MORNING

We started with breakfast at Pancakes on the Rocks. We love pancakes, figured it couldn't be bad with so many great Yelp reviews. The service was a little slow but the food made up for it. I had chocolate chips pancakes, of course, because everything is better with chocolate!

We went down to Circular Quay (pronounced "key") and took the ferry across the harbor to the Taronga Zoo.

There were Koalas, giraffes, kangaroos, everything that can kill you, and my favorite, the penguin exhibit that had Fairy Penguins!

Top of Taronga Zoo

Top of Taronga Zoo

The zoo is located on a hill with spectacular views of Sydney from all over, so we recommend you start at the top and work your way down.

Penguins in the Taronga Zoo

Penguins in the Taronga Zoo

We took a few animal selfies too! We liked the zoo, but the Featherdale Wild Park was even better (see day 2 below).

AFTERNOON - Olympic Park

In the afternoon we took the ferry back to Circular Quay and boarded a train taking us out to the Sydney Olympic Park. Josh loves to visit Olympic Parks and this one had a lot to see and it was all outdoors!

The park was built to host the Summer Olympics in 2000. They had the torch, the Olympic Cauldron that looks like a spaceship which was where the flame was lit the duration of the games, markers that noted how high someone jumped, who won each sport, and name of everyone who participated.

Day 2

Morning - Blue Mountains

We booked a tour with Blue Diamond Tours, which conveniently picked us up from the hotel, and took us to the Blue Mountains National Park. The mountains look blue because the eucalyptus forest disperses droplets of Eucalypt oil into the atmosphere which combines with dust particles and water vapor, scattering refracted rays of light which are largely blue in color. #funfacts

Australia_Sydney-blue_mountains_3_sisters.jpg

The rock formation located in the Blue Mountains is known as the 3 Sisters, which aboriginals legend told, the 3 daughters from the Katoomba tribe fell in love with 3 brothers from a neighboring tribe, but they were forbidden to get married by tribal laws. The brothers didn't agree with this law and captured the 3 sisters, causing a war outbreak between the tribes and the sisters were turned into stone by a witch doctor to protect them. Unfortunately, the witch doctor died in the war and no one was able to turn them back.

From Scenic World’s Website

From Scenic World’s Website

We took the Scenic World Skyway cable car suspended across the Jamison Valley to a park called Scenic World where they had attractions and the best views. You could look through the floor of the car and see the rain forest below.

looking through the floor of the skyway cable car

We also road the Scenic Railway, the world's steepest incline railway, which travels down a cliffside through tunnel and ancient rain forest at a gradient of 62 degrees. At the bottom, you can walk around the rainforest and check out the site of the old coal mine.

Afternoon - Featherdale Wildlife Park

ARCHER, THE KOALA, at Featherdale Wildlife Park

ARCHER, THE KOALA, at Featherdale Wildlife Park

My favorite part of the day was when we went to see Australia's native animals at Featherdale Wildlife Park. I love animals and this was probably my favorite thing to do in Sydney.

Australia_Sydney-featherdale_park.jpg

You can get up close and personal with the animals - touch them, hold them, feed them. The ever so adorable Archer, the koala, is best-loved as he is the popular koala. I even had my Mom paint him from a picture I took because I needed to see him every day.

There are many other animals throughout the park such as kangaroos that are literally hanging out and let you pet them! We also saw more fairy penguins, wombats, wallabies, a Cassowary, and a Tasmanian Devil, OH MY!

Evening in Sydney

We came back to the hotel, freshened up and walked around the harbor over to the Opera Bar for dinner. The Opera Bar is located directly under the Opera House. They had a great food selection, we loved their burgers. The restaurant is set up with open seating and you order by the kitchen, get a number and they deliver to your table.

Australia_Sydney-Harbor_bridge_dinner.jpg

We also enjoyed their dessert (of course) having a crepe with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. I was a perfect ending to our perfect day with a gorgeous pink sunset.

Day 3

Morning in Manly Beach

We started our day going to Manly Beach! For food, we found this spot called Hemingway's which looked like a library but served food and alcohol. It was early, so we had coffee and breakfast with a slight breeze and gorgeous view of the crystal blue ocean.

We walked around and did a little shopping, buying souvenirs and gifts for friends and family.

Australia_Sydney-Manly_Beach.jpg

Afternoon - Sea life Sydney Aquarium

PLATYPUS at the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium

PLATYPUS at the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium

We took the bus back and decided it was time for more animals so we paid a visit to the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium and found Nemo, Dory, and lots of sharks.

We walked through the aquarium and after scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef, it felt like we had seen a lot of these fish before. However, they do have unique creatures that are hard to find in the deep blue and were glad to see them here (love the platypus). If you have kids (or act like a big kid like me) there are interactive pools where you can touch sea cucumbers and starfish.

Also, the high point was the underground glass tunnels where fish and sharks swim around you on all sides and it feels like you're underwater with them.

Australia_Sydney-aquarium.jpg

Happy Hour in Sydney at a Secret Whiskey bar!

BAXTER INN - WHISKEY BAR

It was happy hour and we found a hidden gem! We went to a whiskey speak-easy called the Baxter Inn. It was a little challenging to find but worth it when we got there. You have to head down a nondescript alley on Clarence Street and walk through an unmarked door on your right, down a dark staircase to the basement level. The dim lighting and waiters outfits felt like we had walked into another dimension. They had 360 different whiskeys from around the globe and make their own apple juice for their fine crafted cocktail!

Baxter Inn Speakeasy Bar - Sydney

Baxter Inn Speakeasy Bar - Sydney

Afterward, we went to a casino in The Star hotel. Walking in, there was signage in front explaining the signs which show you might have a gambling problem because of Australia's gambling issue. It was kind of sad, but kind of funny. We played roulette and won! No gambling problem here.

Day 4

MORNING - Beach Walk

Australia_Sydney-Beach Walk.jpg

We took the bus over to Bondi Beach. We then did a 5 mile hike along the coast from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach. Along the way, we walked through the Tamarama and Bronte beaches. This wasn't an easy hike, there were steep inclines, stairs and sun. Lots of sun. The sun was intense and even after re-applying sunscreen a few times, we burned. It hurt.

AFTERNOON - Luna Park

Luna Park Entrance

Luna Park Entrance

We came back cleaned up and took the ferry over to Luna Park, a carnival-like amusement park with a scary entrance. and did a couple of rides, but the highlight was playing on the slides in the funhouse. Josh and I raced for at least 30 minutes. This was definitely made for kids.

Luna Park Slides

Luna Park Slides

EVENING

Afterward, we had dinner at an Italian restaurant right next to Luna Park, called Ripples Milsons Point. It was right on the water overlooking the harbor and I had the most amazing pumpkin ravioli.

We came back to the hotel and wanted to grab a few pictures on our last night:

Day 5

MORNING - Opera House Tour

Our last day in Australia started with breakfast at the Park Hyatt Sydney. We overlooked the harbor directly at the Opera House and started to feel a little sad we were leaving.

Opera House Tiles Close-up - Chevron Design

Opera House Tiles Close-up - Chevron Design

We walked over and took a tour of the Opera House. As an iconic staple to the city, We were excited to see this gorgeous building and learn the history behind it. Up close you can see the shaped tiles that are shell-like making a chevron type pattern across the roof. The inside is just as stunning, as there are several venues within the house. The 2 largest concert hall is the largest and has the largest organ with over 10,000 pipes!

THIS IS KNOWN AS THE OPERA HOUSE CLEAVAGE

AFTERNOON

Since we were leaving that night, we had some time to kill but couldn't go too far. We decided to explore "The Rocks" which was the area right above our hotel. It's great for shopping and restaurants.

We went to Fortune of War (claims it is Sydney's oldest pub, which a lot of bars do) which wasn't anything special but nice to stop for a good cold brew.

Fortune of War - Sydney’s Oldest Pub

It was time to hop in a cab and head to the airport. We were sad to leave Sydney, but we weren't done with our Honeymoon yet, New Zealand and French Polynesia were next!

We would love to go back to Sydney and check off anything we missed! Let us know in the comments below if there is something you recommend!

10 Things You Must See and Do at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland

Star Wars Land also known as Galaxy’s Edge is now open at Disneyland! Check out the best things to do, see, and eat in this new land! See our pro-tips and following along with the map!

UPDATED Sept 21, 2019…

I’ve always liked Star Wars, but Josh is a much bigger fan than I am! Galaxy’s Edge before is almost like walking onto a movie set but as you see the characters walking around and the cast members acting like you’re on another planet, this place becomes real! Here are 10 things you can’t miss in Disneyland’s newest galaxy far far away!

Click here for a map: Disneyland Star Wars Land - Galaxy’s Edge Map

Star Wars Galaxys Edge Disneyland-Light Sabersjpg
  1. Build and design your very own Light Saber!

Get in line as soon as you can so you can get a reservation to come back later. You can bring a friend in with you to build it. These light sabers might be a bit pricey at $200, however it is quite the experience. First you select your theme to your light saber and you’re instructed to come back later wearing your pin since light sabers are only made by Jedis. Cast members will often refer to it as scrap metal since you build your saber in the junk yard! Tristan was our guild and put on quite the performance.

Don’t forget to pack these guys:

Blue Milk at Galaxy’s Edge

Blue Milk at Galaxy’s Edge

2. Try the Blue Milk!

Do you remember the scene from Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi when Luke squeezes gross milk from the udder of a female Thala-siren (basically an alien sea cow) and gulps it? Yeah, it was disgusting. I guess there was a similar scene with milk from another creature that was cut from the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope. Anyhoo, we liked the Blue Milk since it was much sweeter than the Green Milk but give both a try!

Menu Descriptions (Both are $7.99):

  • Blue Milk: Plant-based Dairy blend of Coconut and Rice Milk with alluring fruity characteristics.

  • Green Milk: Plant-based Dairy blend of Coconut and Rice Milk with zippy citrus and tropical characteristics.

The consistency is strange, it’s like a smoothie, or somewhere between a slushee and a milkshake! The Green Milk tasted almost floral like, as if it were lavender ice cream or something. As Kimmy Schmidt would say, “Ew that’s a smell!”
PRO-TIP: Make sure you mobile order! It’s not worth waiting in line!

The Blue Milk scene:

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Cove ride

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Cove ride

3. Be a pilot on the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Cove ride

We went on this ride 4 times and tried all three positions: Pilot, Gunner, and Engineer. The pilot that sits in the front left steers the ship up and down and also gets to throw you into light speed! I was nervous it would be hard, but it’s a slower move so that you have more time to react (and hopefully not crash).

Pro-tip: If the line is long, there is a single rider option, but you will most likely be an engineer. 30-45 minutes is a decent wait time if the park is crowded. Late at night is a good time to go!

4. Find Chewie or other beloved characters from the Star Wars series!

Characters were roaming around instead of standing somewhere to pose for pictures!

PRO-TIP: I started to take a selfie near Chewie and he came up and photo bombed me!

5. Watch fireworks light up the sky over the Millennium Falcon!

Fireworks usually blast off nightly around 9:30p. The only bad part is, you can’t hear the music the fireworks is playing to like you can throughout the rest of the park!

Star Wars Galaxys Edge Disneyland-67.jpg

6. Explore the shops, you’ll never know what you might find!

There are a few different themed shops - pet store, toy shop, clothing… Here in Galaxy’s Edge, these Merchants are referred to as: Resistance Supply, Creature Stall, Toydarian Toymaker, Black Spire Outfitters, and Jewels of Birth. I think that sums it up.

PRO-TIP: The creature stall has a sleeping creature! Give it a visit!

Build a droid!

Build a droid!

7. Build a droid!

Take home your very own droid by assembling one in the Droid Depot! You can make a BB8 or even your own R2, they make great companions!

PRO-TIP: Visit R2D2 here - He’s full size and for sale!

8. Visit the Antique Shop!

So many worldy and weirdly things here! Fun things to purchase and others are fun to look at.

Star Wars Galaxys Edge Disneyland-Antique shop.jpg

Coca-cola coke bottles star wars galaxys edge.jpg

9. Get a soda!

For only $4.25 you get a coke and a souvenir! Your favorite soda comes in a unique Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge package! Try a Coca-cola, Diet Coke or Sprite!

Batuu-bon cake Star Wars Land.jpg

10. Get a treat at Docking Bay 7!

BONUS: Have a drink at Oga’s Cantina

Reservations are recommended, very seldom do they have walk-ins. Make your reservations up to 14 days in advance or same-day reservations will be made available each day at 7:00 AM Pacific Time for visits that day, subject to availability. Here is the reservation site: Reservations for Oga’s Cantina

Try the Fuzzy Taun Taun… it’ll give you a tingly feeling… literally! The Chardonnay on tap is BLUE!

Ice cream and ocean views? What could be better!?

Sunset in Manhattan Beach

Sunset in Manhattan Beach

On the corner of Manhattan Ave and Manhattan Beach Blvd, you fall right into those beach vibes and Manhattan Beach Creamery…

This magical place is like walking into a unicorn’s dream. I love the chandeliers and the pink sky ceiling, they add that fun girlie touch. It also reminds me of the Caesar’s Palace Forum Shops ceiling! Anyone know that reference?

Now, not only do they make and sell ice cream, Manhattan Beach Cream makes cupcakes, cookies, and many other sweet treats!

With 28 flavors that rotate daily, it was hard to choose! I tried quite a few including Maple Bacon Crunch, Red Velvet, Smores, Taro, Salted Caramel, and even that one that looks like fruit cake in the front (it was French Macaroon)!

Ice Cream Flavors

Ice Cream Flavors

SO MANY TREATS! Everything looked so delicious! They are also known for the Cream’wich – an artisan ice cream sandwich made with a combination of artisan cookies from their family business, Katella Bakery.

I wanted to try them all! Fresh-baked cookies, French macarons, chocolate dipped treats, the sweetness was endless. Their most popular treats include Oreos, graham crackers, pretzels, Rice Krispies, s’mores, marshmallows, vanilla wafers, and of course strawberries.

We’ve gone a few times, my favorite flavors have been Heath Bar Coffee, Maple Bacon Crunch, Mocha Almond Fudge and Super Sonic (sweet cream taste, filled with lots of sprinkles). I think the best value here is a Sundae! If you don’t finish it, take it home and throw it in the freezer! 😃

Roselani Ice cream served at Maui Gelato

Roselani Ice cream served at Maui Gelato

Based on names like Haupia, Kona coffee, Kona Mud Pie, I had to look up Roselani Ice Cream to make sure this was legit Maui ice cream. Here’s what I found on the Roselani website:

In 1932 at the Maui Soda & Ice Works plant in Wailuku, Maui, Manuel Nobriga began making ice cream from scratch for local ice cream parlors. Everyone loved the velvety smooth texture and the richness of his flavors and the business grew to eventually include 1/2-gallon cartons that folks could enjoy at home.

The name Roselani is always of interest, especially to folks outside of Maui. It is the “Americanization” of the Hawaiian word Lokelani, which means “heavenly rose” and is Maui’s official flower. The red blossom is proudly displayed on Roselani® Ice Cream cartons. “It honors my grandfather’s and my father’s identity. A rose is the queen of perfection,” says Cathy (third generation)… just like the ice cream which bears its name.

Check out where to find Roselani ice cream on Maui here: Roselani Locations (available on other islands as well, but only sold in Hawaii).

With that, I was confident the ice cream is also a solid choice.

Maui Gelato Menu options

Maui Gelato Menu options

They were nice enough to let me try try so many flavors since no one else was there! After 10 minutes of looking at all my options, literally, everything sounded so good (gelato, ice cream, cup, cone, waffle bowl…), I ended up ordering Toasted Coconut gelato and Kona Pie ice cream in a cone dipped with sprinkles, of course!

My ice cream melted in the sun so quickly!

My ice cream melted in the sun so quickly!

I had big dreams of taking a picture of ice cream with Maui waves in the background… As soon as we stepped outside, that sucker started melting like a snowman in summer. I ran across the street to get this picture before I wasted too much of my delicious ice cream. Lesson learned here: Life is like ice cream, enjoy it before it melts! Also, always grab extra napkins! 😆

One day guide and what to see at the Disneyland Paris Resort. Where to go in Disneyland Paris | What to do at Disneyland Paris | How to get to Disneyland Paris | #Disneyland #Paris #DisneylandParis

Disneyland Paris Entrance

Everything you need to know about DISNEYLAND PARIS GUIDE - best things to do and see from a Disneyland expert!

We passed a billboard on the train that said Disneyland Paris tickets were around $80. We had one more day in Paris and thought that could be a fun way to end our vacation! Since we were with Josh's family, I really didn't think we were going to go and that it would take some convincing, but both Josh and his brother were game!  I’ve been to Disneyland in California literally hundreds of times. We’ve also been to Hong Kong Disneyland and Walt Disney World so we were excited to explore another Disney Park and see how different it was from the other parks we had been to.

Don’t forget to pack these dresses!

HOW TO GET TO DISNEYLAND PARIS

Disneyland Paris is about 40 minutes outside of Paris, so we set out early to get there close to when it opened. For less than 8 Euro (one way), we took the RER A train from Auber to Disneyland Paris (at Marne La Vallée station). It took almost an hour and I was definitely more excited (and impatient) than the 6 year olds we shared a car with.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT IN DISNEYLAND PARIS?

After going to Disneyland hundreds of times and Walt Disney World a handful of times, what did we need to go to Disneyland Paris for?

First of all, there are 2 parks: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios ParkDisneyland Park has your basics with exclusive features only in Paris: Pirates of the Caribbean, Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain: Mission 2, Haunted Manor. Walt Disney Studios Park has the newer rides: Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster,  Crush's Coaster, Toy Story Land. If you only have one day here's what you should see...

Walt Disney Studios Park:

Walt Disney Studios Paris

I thought it was weird we didn't see the Walt and Mickey Statue in the Disneyland Park, but lo and behold, there it was in the Studios Park.

BONJOUR BUZZ!

BONJOUR BUZZ!

Elements were taken from both Disneyland and Disney World, but when we approached Toy Story Land and a giant Buzz Lightyear greeted us with, "Bonjour," Paris Disneyland definitely had a unique charm.

Related Post: Guide to Hong Kong Disneyland

Toy Story Land had rides for little kids, much like A Bug's Life Land in California Adventure so we didn't spend much time there. Now Walt Disney World and Hong Kong Disneyland have Toy Story land. I personally liked Hong Kong’s version of Toy Story land the best!

Down the street from Toy Story Land, there was a little bit of Car's Land, not quite like California Adventure but there were a few familiar buildings that occupied one of the street corner's including the bumper car ride, Flo's Cafe, and a gift shop.

CAR'S LAND CORNER

CAR'S LAND CORNER

Crush's Ride was a favorite at the Studios Park. It can't be found in any of the US Parks (although they should add it - preferably to California Adventure), and is a unique roller coaster type that you ride with Crush from Finding Nemo in a turtle shell along the EAC. It's fast, it spins, it's fun! We waited about an hour for it, but it was worth it (and dry).

Much like the studios in Orlando, you could also find rides such as the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror.

Paris Disneyland Park:

SLEEPING BEAUTY'S CASTLE - Paris Disneyland

SLEEPING BEAUTY'S CASTLE - Paris Disneyland

We went in October and the park was all decked out with Halloween decorations. Main street was full of spooks and pumpkins everywhere you looked!

Related Post: Halloweentime at the Disneyland Resort

In the US parks, you can enter through the gates of the castle and there are shops or restaurants within the walls. Here, you can go under Sleeping Beauty's castle and visit a DRAGON. He has a little smoke that come from his mouth and moves around.

DRAGON UNDER SLEEPING BEAUTY'S CASTLE

DRAGON UNDER SLEEPING BEAUTY'S CASTLE

Space Mountain: Mission 2 is one of my favorite rides but Paris wins in my book! It not only takes place dark in space inside, but also goes outside AND HAS A LOOP! So nice, we did it twice. Compared to the other Disney parks, this one is the best. Make sure you grab a fastpass!

SPACE MOUNTAIN MISSION 2

SPACE MOUNTAIN MISSION 2

As a huge fan of the Indiana Jones ride in California Disneyland, I was surprised when we came across Paris' Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril. It was still a thrill ride, but it was an outdoor roller coaster (kinda like Everest at Animal Kingdom). Space Mountain Mission 2 was better if you're looking to go one one or the other.

Paris Disneyland-INDIANA JONES ET LE TEMPLE DU PÉRIL.jpg

We also enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean. Of all the different versions, this one seemed to tell the story the best.

Paris Disneyland-Pirates of the Caribbean.jpg

You could also find other Disneyland classics such as Big ThunderSmall WorldHaunted MansionAutopiaBuzz Lightyear, and Dumbo. In Frontierland, they have the Lucky Nugget, which I'm used to seeing the Golden Nugget at home!

Haunted Mansion

FOOD AT DISNEYLAND PARIS

We ate at the Hakuna Matata Restaurant because we were hungry and it was raining. They had chicken tenders and fries that were pretty good for Disney Park foo. They had more options but all we needed at that time was basic food.

Of course we had to have ice cream so we indulged in some ice cream sandwiches. Yum!

Paris Disneyland-21.jpg

Overall, if you're a Disney fan, I highly recommend it!

7 Best Restaurants in Lake Tahoe with Stunning Lake Views (with map)

Here is a guide to great restaurants that have amazing food and the BEST views of South Lake Tahoe! Some great fine dining options and have you ever had a Wet Woody? Yup, I just said that, see what it is in the post!

Guide to Amazing Lake Tahoe Restaurants with Lake Views (with map)!

As creatures of habit, we go to Lake Tahoe almost every year and hit up some of the same restaurants. Why? Because these restaurants have amazing food and the BEST views of Lake Tahoe! Some of these are a little pricey so I gave a scale of one to four dollar signs ($) to note the level of expense.

Here is a map made with the Wanderlog Travel Planner, so you can follow along, add to your Google maps account, or create your own personal map! Wanderlog allows you to create great maps and guides for any vacation (and it’s free)!

Map courtesy of Wanderlog travel planner

Lake Tahoe-Riva Grill Wet Woody.jpg

Address: 900 Ski Run Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150

  • Price: $$

  • Lunch Cuisine: American - Salads / Burgers / Pizza / Sandwiches

  • Menu: Riva Menu

  • Reservations: Opentable.com

For lunch and cocktails, you must go to Riva Grill on the Lake and try a Wet Woody. Yes, I just said that. They are famous for these rum drinks and these woody's sure pack a punch! They have great burgers (my fave) and pizzas (believe it or not) and is the perfect place for larger parties. Riva Grill is also open for breakfast on the weekends and I have my eye on the Eggs Benedict!

Lunch options are great, ask for a table on the deck, it’s open all summer long with amazing views of the lake.

Edgewood Lake Tahoe - Hotel, Spa, & Golf Course

Address: 100 Lake Pkwy, Stateline, NV 89449

Lake Tahoe-Brooks Bar and Deck.jpg

Brooks Bar and Deck

We enjoy burgers, sandwiches and cocktails on the patio at Brooks Bar and Deck for lunch. My Favorite is the Spicy Marinated Chicken Sandwich complete with jack cheese, avocado, chili aioli, and served with tater tots! Josh loves the French Dip with Prime Rib. YUM!

Don’t forget dessert - Warmed Chocolate Brownie served with salted caramel ice cream!

Breakfast is an option here before or after your golf game (or if you just want to watch other people play golf). So many classic options from waffles to omelettes.

Make a reservation ahead of time, they are on OpenTable.com.

Edgewood Restaurant

PHOTO PROVIDED FROM THE RESTAURANT’S WEBSITE

Located on the Edgewood golf course and right on the lake, its the perfect spot for dinner at sunset. Since it’s only open for dinner, try and get there just before sunset to see the sun disappear across the lake through their gorgeous floor to ceiling windows. The interior looks like a luxurious lodge with views of the lake, mountains and pines! The lounge and bar open an hour before the restaurant opens and stay open an hour after it closes.

We’re never disappointed by the steaks, the filet is a favorite! There are plenty of fish options as well!

19 Kitchen & Bar - Harvey's Lake Tahoe

Address: 18 US-50, Stateline, NV 89449

This restaurant is located atop of the Harvey's Hotel on the 19th floor with great steaks and amazing birds eye views of the lake. We usually go right around sunset and have drinks in the bar or if we’re dining, we request a table by the window. I love the Ribeye steak with their fabulous green peppercorn sauce served with garlic mashed potatoes.

Also, don't miss out on their cotton candy for dessert!

Friday’s Station Steak & Seafood Grill

Address: Harrah's Hotel - 19-29 Lincoln Hwy, Stateline, NV 89449

Located on the top floor of Harrah's, this Lake Tahoe fine dining gem features a dramatic entrance, a 1,000-bottle display wine cellar and magnificent views from every table. Favorite meal: Prime Rib with mashed potatoes. Is your mouth watering too?

DON’T FORGET DESSERT!!!!

Susie Scoops Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt

Address: 869 Tahoe Blvd, Incline Village, NV 89451

  • Price: $

  • Specialty: Dessert/ Ice Cream/ Frozen Yogurt

This cute little ice cream store is located in Incline Village and attached to the toy shop, Village Toys! Inside the walls are pink with ice cream lights and decorations everywhere like an old fashioned ice cream shop. I wanted to live there, it reminded me of my childhood bedroom. My phone malfunctioned and I don’t have any of my pictures from this day, except for the one below!

Susie Scoops offers 28 flavors made locally! THEY HAVE ALL THINGS ICE CREAM including hand-dipped waffle cones, specialty sundaes, frozen yogurt, smoothies, shaved ice (18 flavors), shakes & malts (any flavors), floats,  pints to go, & ice cream cakes!

Lake Tahoe-Susie Scoops Ice Cream.jpg

Exceptional flavors: Peppermint, Mud pie and Peanut Butter Cup ice cream.

Ok, so this one doesn’t have a view of the lake, but they have some of the BEST steaks, I’ve ever had!

Ciera Steak & Chophouse

Address: Montbleu Resort Casino & Spa - 55 US-50, Stateline, NV 89449

I'd put Ciera Steak & Chophouse in the Top 10 best steak dinners I've ever had (and I LOVE steak)! This fabulous 4 Diamond chophouse has an exquisite variety of steaks and chops to go along with their extensive 300 bottle wine list.

Even the sides were amazing, we ordered all potatoes (the White Cheddar Scalloped Potatoes Gratinée were my fave) and the white truffle mac and cheese. These paired well with my mouth watering Cowboy Ribeye.

Best Restaurants and Where to Eat in Paris

Some of our favorite places to eat in Paris, France! Check out these great restaurants and where to find our favorite dessert, profiteroles! #Paris #Restaurants

Chocolate+Croissants+on+the+streets+of+Paris+-+Wandering+Jokas+Travel+Blog.jpeg

Best Restaurants in Paris

If you're as starving as a gargoyle (I mean, come on, they HAVE to be hungry), then you've come to the right place. Here is a list of restaurants/bars and the neighborhoods to find them:

Breakfast

French Pastries and breakfast

Get a croissant (chocolate croissants are my favorite) or a crepe wherever it smells good. A few places make crepes near the window leaking that delightful smell of sweetness in the air. It's hard to resist!

Best Restaurants in Saint-Germain des Prés

It seems we ate near here more than any other area! It's been awhile since I've been to some, but they still deserve recognition.

Le Bon Saint-Pourçain

Address: 10 bis r. Servandoni, 75006 Paris

I still remember this meal like it was yesterday. This was the best meal in Paris. It was off the beaten path and was authentic inside and out. Even our chef looked like a cartoon character with his thick eyebrows and long white apron. For our entrees, I had a chicken with wine sauce served with the softest potatoes.  Even though we were full, we ended the meal with an incredible creme brulee, with the consistency having the perfect amount of sticky and goodness. Apparently, new owners took over in 2015, and it has been re-vamped. I hope the food is still just as good.

les deux magots.jpg

Les Deux Magots

Address: 6 Place Saint-Germain des Prés, 75006 Paris, France

This was a great bistro in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area. So nice, we went there twice with my family. It once had a reputation as the rendezvous of the literary and intellectual élite of the city. The waiters were very nice and helpful on our first night in Paris. No, they don't serve maggots - don't let the name get to you. They actually had a chicken dish that was delicious. To end your night, make sure you try their sorbets and chocolate mousse!

Relais de l'Entrecôte

Address: 20 Rue Saint-Benoît, 75006 Paris, France

Relais de l'Entrecôte has a few locations, but you must go for their steak frites. What's better than steak frites? They have even better desserts! We went to the one on RUE SAINT-BENOÎT. Like most of the Parisian restaurants, the tables were really close and it was pretty loud, but the price wasn't bad for the amount of food you basically inhale. The Chocolate Profiteroles were the highlight of the meal in my book!

CHOCOLATE PROFITEROLES - ONE OF THEIR MOST POPULAR DESSERTS: DELICIOUS DONUT LIKE CAKES WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM, ALL SPRINKLED WITH HOT CHOCOLATE AND TOASTED ALMONDS.

We found the cutest little Cupcake and Macaron stand. Literally!

Restaurants Near the Eiffel Tower

Au Pied De Fouet

45 Rue de Babylone, 75007 Paris, France

The translation means “At the Whiplash,” I don’t quite know what that means but the FOOD WAS AMAZING! As a traditional French meal, many courses came out and the place looked like it had been there for years! It was small and crowded but we enjoyed the authenticity of the restaurant (and the wine).

Alfio

43 Avenue de la Bourdonnais, 75007 Paris, France

We were watching the lights twinkle on the Eiffel Tower and felt rumblies in our tumblies. We walked along the cobblestone streets and after walking 10 miles that day (see our How to Spend 24 hours in Paris post), pizza sounded good. We stumbled upon Alfio after watching the Eiffel Tower light up at night. It's a small quaint place but the pizza and pasta were delicious. I ordered spicy pasta and it was pretty spicy! Decor is great too, they melted wine bottles down and hung them around the restaurant. Highly recommend for those looking for a non fancy, great food, decent price kinda place.

Restaurant Review: Uovo - Santa Monica, CA

Uovo Santa Monica was a great date night restaurant! We went for some fresh Italian pasta, flown in straight from Bologna, Italy! You’d be surprised what our favorite dish was - see our review! First come, first served, no reservations.

Restaurant: Uovo

Address: 1320 2nd Street Ste. A, Santa Monica CA 90401

Menu: https://uovo.la/menu/

Price: $$

Reservations: They DO NOT take reservations. Guests will be seated on a first come, first-served basis.

Delivery: Order on Postmates if you don’t have time!

Uovo is a unique classic Italian pasta bar from the co-owners of Sugarfish. I was expecting to order at a counter and take a number but they had a better system, let me explain below! We ordered 3 pasta dishes that we loved and left satisfied.

Uovo, a new food centric restaurant serving traditional pasta dishes made with fresh pasta from our kitchen in Bologna, Italy

Uovo Santa Monica Entrance on 2nd Street

Arrival and Atmosphere

Located on 2nd street, we parked in one of the Santa Monica parking structures that had free parking for up to 90 minutes. We put our name in and they said it would be about 10-15 mins. We waited out front for about 10 mins and they called in to sit at the counter.

Uovo_Pasta_Santa_Monica_Counter.jpg

Inside as we were walking to our seats, we noticed there weren’t many too tables and a lot of barstools. There were probably 10 tables and a bar that surrounded the kitchen. Let’s just say I won’t be planning my next birthday here. We sat at the counter with a view of the kitchen and the bar even had hooks underneath - big points in my book. Our waitress came right away to explain some great items on the menu, they even had a few specials! We told her we were hungry and she recommended we order 3 dishes. After a quick discussion, we came to a decision, put our order in, and watched them make our dish in front of our eyes!

Cell reception was really bad in there, but that was ok, Josh and I were enjoying each others company.

Amazing PASTA!

The menu was pasta and sides. No appetizers, no bread, no dessert. We ordered 3 dishes between the 2 of us! The pasta is specially flown in from Italy everyday! The chef would come up to the counter as our pasta was ready and pour it from the pan into our bowl! We had to try the special truffle dish that night, Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe (Pecorino and black pepper – a salt forward dish), and the Tagliatelle al Ragú (bolognese). We liked all 3 but our favorite ended up being the bolognese dish, much like a meat sauce spaghetti! The noodles were soft, well cooked, and fresh. The Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe was cooked well, with cheese and pepper on top.

To drink, we had the house Chianti Superiore which was a nice blend, went well with the pasta dishes.

We were in and out in about 30 mins (if that). I'd definitely go back!

RIDES AND ATTRACTIONS ON PIXAR PIER

Best ride, hands up (see what I did there), is the Incredicoaster! If you haven't seen Incredibles 2 yet, I highly encourage watching it before you ride! Jack Jack is on the loose and using all of his new powers throughout the ride causing the family to team up and try to catch this newly super-powered baby.

Disneyland_Pixar_Incredicoaster.jpg

What's changed? Not much. Same track just moves to the Incredibles theme song and you see the characters in the tunnels. I must say though, adding the red tunnels to the outside of the coaster has kinda made it look like the ride is under construction. I miss the clean look of California Screamin'.

Of all the things to take off the pier, I thought King Triton's Carousel actually fit when it was Paradise Pier with The Little Mermaid Ride and Ariel's Grotto it was a mermaid theme! I feel like they could have made this a Finding Nemo ride and they could have kept some of the underwater elements. No one consulted with me! Jessie’s Critter Carousel is NOW OPEN! Looked like a regular carousel with some Toy Story umph to it! Also, Jessie has a very harsh light on her.

Jessie’s Critter Carousel

Jessie’s Critter Carousel

Toy Story Mania is still there with a slight adjustment to the front. Basically, Fast Passes were added and changed the entrance around. I still haven't beat Josh at this yet, but I'm still reigning champ at Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters!

The boardwalk games are now Pixar themed. Maybe I'll actually play them! :)

FOOD ON PIXAR PIER

What was on Pixar Pier before it was Pixar Pier? I don't remember either. Nothing stood out on Paradise Pier but now its crystal clear what each food vendor is now serving.

PIXAR FEST - Summer 2018

Summer of 2017 the theme was Hero Up with the release of The Guardians of the Galaxy ride. Last summer, Pixar was the theme applying to a parade, fireworks show, specialty food and decorations, and the launch of Pixar Pier.

Cars land had a few decorations including Buzz and Woody decked out cars with this random girl (check out her Sully popcorn holder):

Restaurant Review: Alameda Supper Club - Downtown Los Angeles, CA

After opening their doors in March 2019, the Alameda Supper Club should be added to your Los Angeles restaurant bucket list! Located in ROW DTLA as part of the Manufactory, Chris Bianco’s new dinner restaurant is spectacular! See our full review with menus and pictures!

Alameda Supper Club

Alameda Supper Club DTLA-12.jpg

Address: 757 ALAMEDA ST,LOS ANGELES, CA 90021

Website and Reservations: https://www.alamedasupperclub.com/

After opening their doors less than 2 weeks ago, the Alameda Supper Club should be added to your restaurant bucket list! Located in ROW DTLA as part of the Manufactory group along with Tartine, Chris Bianco’s new dinner restaurant is spectacular! Although pizza is not served here, there are plenty of appetizing dishes with an Italian flair!

Alameda Supper Club DTLA-8.jpg

Our food menu is inspired by Chef Chris Bianco's Italian origins with influences from Chef Lee Foden-Clarke's English background, combined with inspiration from the California Farmer's Market. It is is designed to be shared, emphasizing the true meaning of the word “supper”.

Alameda Supper Club DTLA-ROW.jpg

Location

Part of ROW DTLA near the Arts District, this trendy area has tons of warehouses, and is home to merchandisers such as Splended / Ella Moss, NationBuilder, Nasty Gal, Colony Capital, Steelcase, rhubarb studios, and Gensler. On Sundays (especially during summer), Smorgasburg LA is the place to be, filled with LA’s best food joints!

Dining Room

The dining room design is very modern, bright and I loved the wood tables in this warehouse space.

Entrees at Alameda Supper Club

Let’s start with the pasta. IT WAS ALL AMAZING! The strozzapreti and ravioli were the highlights. The strozzapreti melted in your mouth with a buttery finish and pepper after taste. We discussed how the peas in the ravioli are not your mom’s peas in a can, and so delightful.

We weren’t going to order the Fermented Pearl Barley, because it sounded so strange but our waitress, Andrea, recommended it! It was good, but we did prefer the pastas!

OMG, GET THE ICE CREAM. If you know me, you know I would say that anyway, but I mean it here! So many weird things together, but it was SO good. Hazelnut, Balsamic, olive oil, orange-anise crumble, maldon.

They have inhabited the Renaissance Island and you must plan ahead to see them, they are not available to the public. Here’s all you need to know about the island so you don’t miss out on your flamingo selfie.

Pricing and Getting to Renaissance Island

This is a perk for staying at the Renaissance Aruba hotel because it’s free to get in! If you’re looking to spend the day there, it’s $100 a day per person but comes with food and a drink. However, if the hotel is completely booked, they might not offer the pass and you can only purchase tickets the day of, first come, first served.

Renaissance Aruba Lobby - Boat Dock in front of Starbucks

The island is open from 7am to 7pm with boats that come every 15 minutes, picking up in the lobby by Starbucks as well as over by the casino. When the tide is low and the boats can’t make it into the lobby, pick up is in front of Lucy’s right across the street from the Renaissance. You must use your room key or day pass to get on the boat to visit the island.

Aruba Adults Only Hotel and Casino

Aruba Adults Only Hotel and Casino

There are 2 hotels at the Renaissance hotel property, an adults-only hotel and a family hotel, both right across from each other. The adults-only hotel is more inland but still in the marina. It’s also connected to a very fancy, high-end mall and casino!

These beautiful pink birds hang out at Flamingo Beach all day! Kids are allowed from 9-10am to feed them and take the cutest family photos. Since we stayed at the hotel we ended up going 2 days in a row. We went the first day around 2pm and stayed until 5:30pm. I was immediately glued to the flamingos as soon as we arrived. I probably took 200 pictures/videos!

There were 6 pretty birds and they seemed to all travel as a flock around the beach. It was great people-watching, you could tell who had just arrived for the first time, who was doing it for social media and those who were truly enjoying themselves. And then there was me…

Food and drinks served at Mangrove bar until 5pm on Flamingo Beach. I wanted something to match my new pink flamingo friends and went with a strawberry daiquiri.

We had a burger as a late lunch and ate it on the beach while watching the flamingos roam.

The bartender suggested to leave before 6pm so you didn’t have to wait long for a boat to come.

We came back the next day and missed the 8:15am boat since they loaded across the street because the tide was low to pick us up in the lobby. We caught the 8:30am which was pretty crowded. It was still nice to get there early and have one on one time with my pink friends! The crystal clear water makes this one of the best beaches in Aruba!

Feed Flamingos

Bring a few US quarters, there’s a gum ball dispenser filled with flamingo food when you walk in! $0.50 is a lot of food to feed them for one person. They’ll either eat it right out of your hand or run from you depending how much they’ve already had to eat.

What else is there to do at Flamingo Beach?

Other than watching the silly flamingos, Flamingo Beach is a great beach to take a dip in! The beach is fully equipped with towels, pool chairs, bar, restaurant, bathrooms, floaty rentals, scuba gear, etc. We charged things to our room or you can pay in US dollars or their local currency, Florin. Don’t miss an opportunity to relax in a hammock! Rent floaties for $6 a day or rent a fancy cabana ahead of time. You can even get massages on the island in private rooms!

Iguana Beach on Renaissance Island

Iguana beach is the family beach and more like a beach! There are plenty of fish to see if you snorkel or you can swim/float/etc.

Breakfast is served from 8a-12p. The menu is limited to a few items for $19.95 USD, you can get a fruit plate, basket of pastries, entrée, and coffee/tea/orange juice.

Secret Spot on Renaissance Island

If you head towards the end of Iguana Beach past the restaurant, there is a hidden area where baby flamingos nest!

The babies aren’t as pink as the adults, but they are still so cute!

It was like a dream! Is this real life!? It sure can be! :) Add Flamingo Beach to your bucket list!
